Peter Baur
European Commission: Unit Head at DG Education of Culture

Peter Baur is the Deputy Head of the unit LifeLong Learning, Higher Education and International Affairs at the European Commission Directorate-General for Education and Culture. He has been working on the development of policy in the area of higher education on EU level, with a particular focus on the development of university-industry co-operation. Before joining the European Commission, he worked for 10 years as project manager in the IT industry. He joined the European Commission in 1994 and he worked for almost 7 years in the European research programmes in the area of information technologies. In 2001 he started to work in the Directorate General Education and Culture. He was closely involved in the elaboration of the Commission's proposal for the integrated lifelong learning programme and in the activities related to the Education and Training 2010 work programme.


Dr. Niels Bosma

Niels Bosma is assistant professor with Utrecht University, Utrecht School of Economics. He holds a PhD in economic geography, obtained at Utrecht University and an MSc degree in econometrics (University of Groningen). Niels is particularly interested in individuals’ entrepreneurial and innovative behaviour in regional and social contexts and has several publications in leading academic journals. Since 2005 he has also actively contributed to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), as a research director and research director, and has co-authored the annual GEM Global Reports since 2006. Before moving to Utrecht University Niels was affiliated to EIM Business and Research Policy (now part of the Panteia group), Erasmus University Rotterdam and completed a traineeship in applied research at the Tinbergen Institute.


Todd Davey

Todd Davey is an invited lecturer in innovation and entrepreneurship at Münster University of Applied Sciences, Germany, Free University, Holland and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa whilst leading the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre's European project commitments. Todd is also the Managing Director at Apprimo, a strategic consultancy dedicated to University-Business Cooperation. Prior to MUAS he was Senior Manager at Deloitte Australia in their Technology Commercialisation Group.


Dr. Henriëtte van Eijl

Dr. Henriette van Eijl is Policy Officer, Innovation Policy Development, Directorate-General, Enterprise and Industry, European Commission. Her main responsibilities are to coordinate and implement the activities of the Lead Market Initiative and, secondly, to contribute to the development of future European innovation policy activities in the European Commission's Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry's Innovation Policy unit, in particularly responsible for developing activities in the areas of societal challenges and social innovation.


Dr. Anne Flierman
President of University of Twente

Since 2005 Mr Flierman is the president of the University of Twente. In addition, Mr Flierman is also the head of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities and a member of the senate of the Netherlands. With 100 student companies located on campus, and more than 700 successful spin-offs, the University of Twente is the example of an Entrepreneurial University.



Prof. Paul Hannon

Mr Hannon is an expert in the field of Entrepreneurship from his position as CEO of the NCEE, as president of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship and as a member of the EU expert group on entrepreneurship education in higher education. The NCEE aims to support, stimulate and raise entrepreneurship in education.



Andrea-Rosalinde Hofer

Ms Hofer has worked for the University of Federal Armed Forced in Munich, as well as the United Nations, after which Ms Hofer joined the OECD in 2004 as a policy analyst. Ms Hofer manages international studies, contributing to the work on entrepreneurship and innovation.



Dr. John Smith
Deputy Secretary General at European University Association (EUA)

Dr. John Smith has worked at the EUA since September 2004 as Deputy Secretary General with responsibility for its activities in the fields of research and innovation. After completing his Ph.D. in political science (University of Kent, Canterbury, UK) he took up a career in the field of science administration and policy at the Economic and Social Research Council, London, UK (1976-84), and the European Science Foundation, Strasbourg, (1985-2000). Based in Vienna from 2000-2003, he was Executive Director of the Institute for Human Sciences until December 2001 and then worked as a Research Consultant on several commissioned studies, including those for the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Culture; the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research; and the European Commission Directorate-General for Research. From October 2003 to September 2004, he was based in Lisbon, Portugal, as a Gulbenkian Foundation Visiting Professor in European Science Policy at the Instituto Superior De Ciencias Do Trabalho E Da Empresa (ISCTE) of the University of Lisbon.
